Pediatric Skin Conditions

A pediatric dermatologist is trained to offer consultations and continuing care and can perform surgical procedures. Your pediatric dermatologist has undergone four years of medical school, an additional year of specialty training, two years of dermatological training and between one and three years of training in pediatric dermatology. This has prepared them to provide the most up-to-date treatment to children by helping them to understand how best to put children at ease, by giving them knowledge about medical equipment designed specifically for children, and by allowing them to practice with full knowledge of the growth and development processes of children. Like adult dermatological procedures, pediatric dermatological procedures are designed to treat a variety of skin diseases and problems in both outpatient and inpatient settings. This branch of dermatology tends to focus on conditions and problems that occur from infancy through adolescence.

Your pediatric dermatologist will be happy to consult with you on a variety of skin conditions such as hives, eczema, warts, moles, birthmarks, psoriasis, inherited disorders, allergic reactions, and bacterial, fungal, or viral infections. Because there are many kinds of skin conditions, treatment will vary depending on the type and severity of the condition and will be treated on a very specific and individual basis.

If you have any questions, your doctor will be happy to schedule a consultation with you and your child.
